Shiatsu

Shiatsu originates in Far Eastern forms of therapy, the basis of which lies in the belief in a dynamic vital energy that exists within all living beings.

While the word “Shiatsu” emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, its roots can be traced back to the “two-handed” technique of ancient China (ca. 6th century BC). As traditional Chinese medicine spread to Japan around 1000 years ago the traditional form of the Japanese massage (Anma) blended with Far Eastern knowledge and western techniques yielding a completely autonomous form of therapy, known today as Shiatsu. It involved pressing particular points using fingers and the heel of the hand, elbows and knees and was thus termed Shi-Atsu, which directly translates to finger-pressure.

The massage and its various pressure techniques stimulate precisely defined ‘switchpoints’ (acupuncture points). It follows the progression of the Meridians and stimulates them as required, activating self-healing, the immune system and the body’s internal energy reserves. The therapy relieves tension, blockades and congestion. Shiatsu supports recovery from muscular tension, back pains, chronic diseases, headaches and migraine, cardiovascular problems, digestive problems, stress and psychological strain, depressions, avolition, concentration deficits, insomnia.

Shiatsu represents a useful preventive measure against problems typically related to a sedentary lifestyle (caused by movement deficit, long working hours in front of a screen, irregular diet) and, in combination with other Chinese therapies such as dietetics, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, guarantees well-being and relaxation.

How it can help you: you can regain the energy and vitality that you once had.
